The funds, entirely supported by the bank, are sent both in the bank’s own name and on behalf of WWF Bonus Card holders, the first eco affinity credit card in Romania

Bucharest, 19 November 2019 – Garanti BBVA, one of the most dynamic banks on the local market, directed, between 2010 and 2019, RON 1.49 million to the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF) Organization, in order to support the development and implementation of environmental projects in Romania.

For any purchase made with WWF Bonus Card, Garanti BBVA transfers 0.3% from the spending of the WWF Bonus Card Customers to WWF funded projects, regarding conservation areas in the Carpathians, along the Danube and in the Danube Delta.

On top of the amount of money directed by the bank in its own name and on behalf of clients to WWF projects, the WWF Bonus cardholders may enjoy bonuses for every purchase, of up to 10%, in a network of more than 6,000 Garanti BBVA partners. The users may buy products and services in 12 installments with 0% interest rate, or even more, during the special campaigns and have up to 50 days of grace period for their shopping.

Recently, Garanti BBVA and WWF have renewed their partnership.

“WWF Bonus Card is very popular among our clients, who found the eco-affinity card useful due to its benefits and importance for preserving the environment. This renewed partnership with WWF is a proof that we are not just talking about environmental protection, but we are taking action. The funds directed to WWF are making a difference for endangered species, virgin forests and for local communities”, stated Anca Motca – Deputy General Manager, Garanti BBVA.

“We are happy that we can continue also in the future the good work that we have been carrying out since 2010 together with Garanti BBVA, for further developing important nature conservation projects in Romania. Garanti BBVA is a long-term partner for WWF Romania’s activities and together we strive to create a future where people live in harmony with nature. WWF activity focuses on areas and species considered to be of critical importance for nature conservation, but also for human well-being. We are looking forward to implementing new projects and raise awareness about the importance of a healthy environment here in Romania”, stated Orieta Hulea, Country Director, WWF-Romania.

For over 10 years now, WWF has been supporting and promoting the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) forestry certification process in Romania through their projects. Thus, today, over 2,800,000 hectares of forests in Romania (about 42% of the national forest fund) are FSC certified and benefit from responsible forestry management that brings environmental, social, and economic benefits to local communities that depend on them.
